Our Items: 2019.03.10

Folks - just over five hours to go before our 29 auctions start closing this evening. Today’s stamps include both 19th and 20th century issues, so lots to choose from.

A small sample of what you’ll find: Scott 276, 276A, 311, 312, 24 (MNH), 302 (MH), 308 (MNH), 309 (MH), 310. There are a couple mint imperf issues and several groups of classic regular issues. You will also find a handful of Washington/Franklin coils.

Some of those coils are noted in the Scott catalog as “beware of plentiful fakes”. Well, I’ve checked these out pretty well - the perfs are of the exact gauge, they are not out of alignment, AND using a web reference produced by Henry Gitner, Inc., the straight edge to straight edge distances fall within the giudeline for legit coils. So, I’m of the opinion that they are NOT fakes. Should you want to have any of them expertized ($$$), please do so. If the stamp(s) come back as fakes, I will certainly re-imburse you for your fees and refund your purchase price. However, if they are sent out and turn out to be legitimate, then the expertizing fees are on you. :-) Let me know if you intend to go with the expertization route - it can take up to three months at some facilities to have it done, APS in particular.

Next week - nearly all stamps going up for bid will be Washington/Franklins. They are a pain to identify properly (for me, anyway), but that is what I’ve spent this past week doing. Perforation checking, watermark checking, rotary press or flat plate checking - ughhh…  So if you need to fill in any empty places in your W/F pages, this next week will be right up your alley.

Good luck with your bidding and have fun!
